Teachers' Resource Center (TRC) is a group of dedicated resource instructors, a
librarian and professional staff responsible for assisting English As a Second
Language (ESL) teachers, materials developers and researchers in a variety of
ways. CCSF ESL faculty can have access to the latest text books and materials
through the TRC Library. Classroom materials support, staff development,
assessment and curriculum information for ESL or Vocational ESL (VESL) faculty

International Corpus of English (ICE) Homepage: The
International Corpus of English (ICE) began in 1990 with the primary aim of
collecting material for comparative studies of English worldwide. Twenty
research teams around the world are preparing electronic corpora of their own
national or regional variety of English. Each ICE corpus consists of one million
words of spoken and written English roduced after 1989. For most participating
countries, the ICE project is stimulating the first systematic investigation of

TOEIC:
The Test of English
for International Communication (TOEIC) is "an English language test designed
specifically to measure the everyday English skills of people working in an
international environment.
TOFEL: The
Test of English as a Foreign Language, or TOEFL, evaluates the ability of an
individual to use and understand English in an academic setting. It sometimes is
an admission requirement for non-native English speakers at many
English-speaking colleges and universities. Additionally, institutions such as
government agencies, licensing bodies, businesses, or scholarship programs may
require this test. A TOEFL score is valid for two years and then will no longer
be officially reported since a candidate's language proficiency could have
significantly changed since the date of the test. Colleges and universities
usually consider only the most recent TOEFL score.
GRE: The
Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admissions
requirement for many graduate schools in the United States, in other
English-speaking countries and for English-taught graduate and business programs
world-wide.
BULATS: BULATS
was developed by the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) and
assesses language skills that are needed for the workplace. BULATS provides a
range of tests to meet different needs: the Standard Test, the Computer Test,
the Speaking Test, and the Writing Test. Each test can be used independently of
the others, or they can be used in various combinations.
IElTS:
IELTS, or 'International English Language Testing System', is an international
standardized test of English language proficiency. It is jointly managed by
University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, the British Council and IDP Education
Pty Ltd, and was established in 1989.
GEPT (General English Proficiency Test):
In 1999, the Ministry of Education, as
part of its promotion of life-long learning and to encourage the general study
of English, lent support to the LTTC in its development of the LTTC GEPT. The
aim of the test is to provide a fair, valid, and reliable gauge for each level
of ability in English.
JLPT:
On
behalf of the Interchange Association, the LTTC administers the JLPT in Taiwan.
The test is divided into four levels and is used by people planning to study in
Japan or to obtain certification of their proficiency in Japanese. It is
administered each year in December in Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung.
EJU:
On behalf of the Japan Student Services Organization, the LTTC administers EJU
in Taiwan. The EJU is used to evaluate the Japanese language proficiency and the
basic academic abilities of international students who wish to study at Japanese
universities at the undergraduate level. The test is given twice a year, in June
and in November
TCF:
The Test de connaissance du français (TCF) is a language placement test for
non-native speakers of French. It is administered by the Centre international
d'études pédagogiques (CIEP) for the French Ministry of Education. It fulfils
French language entry requirements, can be used to demonstrate language ability
for job applications or for personal use, and is used by Québec for immigration
procedures.
